The Chatham House Africa Programme develops foreign policy-orientated research on issues affecting individual states of Africa, their international relations and the African continent as a whole. The programme has built up a significant and influential stream of policy relevant research related to Angola and Mozambique.?
We are seeking a Research Associate on a permanent full-time basis to further develop the programme's research, networks and profile on Lusophone Africa, complementing and feeding into the Africa Programme's other country, regional and thematic work.
The Research Associate will:?
- Generate funding for new projects
- Implement projects and undertake desk and field research under the supervision of the Programme Manager
- Manage relevant projects and support researchers involved
- Design, develop and administer events with the support of the Manager and Coordinator
- Author and edit publications
- Build up a broad international network of contacts particularly on Lusophone Africa
- Interact with Programme and project funders and key stakeholders
- Participate in media interviews on relevant issues
- Support other Programme projects, events and activities as necessary.?
Qualifications
- Applicants will have a post-graduate degree or equivalent experience in politics, international relations, development studies, law or a similar discipline;
- Fluency in written and spoken Portuguese and English
- Research experience, including in conducting interviews is required and experience in field research is desirable
- Demonstrable knowledge of the politics of Angola and Mozambique would be an advantage
- Experience of fundraising and writing project proposals would be an advantage
- Applicants must have excellent analytic skills
- Excellent and demonstrable writing skills
- The ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people
- Applicants will be able to demonstrate sound judgement, should be highly motivated and well-organized and willing to carry out administrative tasks
- Applicants must be able to work well under pressure; juggle multiple tasks; and meet tight deadlines
- Applicants will need to be flexible, personable, independent and able to work as part of a team.
