As member of Scientific Committee and local organizer, Dr Paul Friedemann from Charit? University Medicine, Berlin, Germany wish to highlight why a Tea Congress in Berlin? ?Fuelled by basic research, it has become clear that green tea is more than a lifestyle beverage and has various pharmaceutical properties which warrant its investigation in clinical studies. This, clinical research on the beneficial value of green tea and its ingredients in various diseases is rapidly expanding; the clinicaltrials.gov homepage of the NIH in the US lists more than 100 clinical trials. The 2011 ISANH conference will highlight ongoing clinical research with green tea and its extracts in order to underscore the high relevance of this field of research for the healthy and diseased individual?.

The aim of this presentation is to provide an overview of the EU food legislation which is relevant for producers of food products containing tea and substances extracted from tea. The emphasis will be on to the possibilities and limits of marketing of such products.
