'Breaking In' and 'Chicago Code' Are Among Canceled Fox Shows

'Breaking In' and 'Chicago Code' Are Among Canceled Fox Shows

Seems like Christian Slater just can't catch a break. His latest effort to helm a network TV show -- Fox's Breaking In (Wednesdays, 9:30 p.m. ET) -- has failed.

It's one of five shows that Fox canceled on Tuesday. The others: crime drama The Chicago Code (starring Jennifer Beals), the procedural Lie To Me (starring Tim Roth), the action-adventure series Human Target (starring Mark Valley) and the sitcom Traffic Light (starring The Office's David Denman).

Although these shows brought in less-than-optimum ratings, it's especially tough to see the demise of Slater's Breaking In and Beals' Chicago Code. Critics have been cautiously optimistic about the potential that both series have shown. Click here and here for examples.

Thanks to the space left behind by what's been cut, Fox now has room for series with more ratings potential. The network has several high-profile pilots waiting on deck, including J.J. Abrams' next project entitled Alcatraz, a Bones spinoff called The Finder and a new sitcom starring Zooey Deschanel, The New Girl.

Still, you've got to feel for Slater, whose last two series -- 2008's My Own Worst Enemy and 2009's The Forgotten -- were also dropped within one season. Hopefully, his next project will give him a better shot at breaking into television success.
