EDINBURGH/SILVER SPRING: Killer Islands (working title), led by wildlife expert and adventurer Dave Salmoni, is set to broadcast next year on Discovery Channels around the world and Animal Planet in the U.S.
Killer Islands watches as Salmoni explores exotic islands that are home to some of the planet's most dangerous creatures, including hammerhead sharks and grizzly bears. The six-part program, a co-production between Discovery Networks International (DNI) and Animal Planet, is produced by Silverback Films. It will begin airing on Discovery Channel in EMEA, Asia Pacific and Latin America as well as Animal Planet in the U.S. in the spring and summer of 2014, respectively."This is Discovery at its best: exploring areas unknown and providing unprecedented access to awe-inspiring environments," noted Julian Bellamy, the creative director and head of production and development for DNI. "Dave Salmoni's extraordinary wildlife expertise, captured by world class filmmakers, has produced that rare hybrid of blue chip programming: natural history and adventure set against a spine-tingling mystery?making Killer Islands (wt) a truly incredible series and must-see programming event."
"In Killer Islands (wt), we have the unique opportunity to take our audiences along with Dave Salmoni to experience and explore the extraordinary and unknown corners of our planet," added Marjorie Kaplan, the group president for Animal Planet, Science and Velocity. "We may lead 'civilized' lives, but we want to feel the awe and exhilaration of knowing those wild places exist."
