The importance of fitness and getting active regularly is clear?yet, it can still be hard to follow through and commit to wellness. With school, work and family it can be easy to put your health on the back burner with the attitude, ?Oh, I?ll think about it tomorrow or sometime later.??You are important, and you deserve to have a body that is treated well now.
Taking care of your body takes a lot of work! Follow these tips to get started on the path to a healthier you.
Losing Weight Isn?t a Magic Fix
If you lose a few pounds (or more!), it won?t change the arguments you have with your significant other or the anxiety you have about finding a job. Sure, exercising and eating well can make you feel better and happier, but it won?t swipe away your other struggles. Rather, view getting more in shape as a way of improving yourself?and, perhaps, it will inspire changes and growth in other areas of your life, too!
Get a Fitness Buddy
Having a fitness buddy can help give you motivation to workout and stick to your goals. In addition, tell your friends and family about your lifestyle changes. That way, they can give you encouragement and help you (such as buying healthier food and walking places instead of driving).
Start Slow
If you haven?t been exercising lately, don?t jump into an intense workout regimen right away. Doing so can cause injuries and other strains on your body. Sam Ellyn at LIVESTRONG.com recommends beginning with low-impact activities like walking using 50-60 percent of your maximum heart rate.?With time, you can increase the length of time and intensity as you become stronger. Also, it is a good idea to consult a doctor before beginning a new fitness program.
Find Activities that You Enjoy
There are many activities that burn a lot of calories but feel fun! Try different classes, such as Zumba, yoga, spinning, dance and Pilates?all of these can be done at a variety of ?fitness levels.
Pay Attention to Your Diet
It may feel good to eat junk food after a workout as a reward, but doing so is not productive. Unhealthy food can make you feel bloated and lethargic. Fruits, vegetables and lean proteins are the way to go. Of course, a slice of pizza and dessert are okay in moderation.
It is a Process
Remember that getting healthy is a process. There will be good days and bad days. Sometimes you may slip up into a period of inactivity or eating unhealthy foods. That?s okay. Know that it is never too late to get started again.
