Socks Made with Carbonized Coffee Will Make Your Feet Less Stinky

Plain white socks these are not. The Atlas sock is a performance dress sock made from cotton, polyester and carbonized coffee. Carbonized coffee? Yes, it helps filter and absorb sweat and odor. Even more, the sock uses strain analysis, pressure mapping and thermal imaging to create something ridiculously comfortable.

'Teen Mom' Farrah enters luxury rehab center

Farrah Abraham will spend the next 10 days in a Florida rehab center.

"Teen Mom" star Farrah Abraham checked into a Florida rehab center late Sunday night, but not before video-blogging her car ride to the airport on her Keek site.

Abraham, who in the video said she was "sad" to leave her daughter, Sophia, will be spending the next nine days at The Lukens Institute, a luxury rehab facility in Palm Beach, Fla., recommended to Abraham's manager by Michael Lohan.

?(Farrah's manager) contacted me regarding Farrah and the treatment program The Lukens Institute offers," Lohan told TODAY.com. "It?s very individualized core issue and trauma therapy."

In a statement, Abraham said that completing an intensive outpatient program was required to satisfy the terms of her probation stemming from her March DWI arrest.

"I must complete in order to get off of probation, due to my DWI received in March earlier this year," Abraham said. "At this time in my life I need to stay focused on the positive to get through all of these negatives that this DWI has caused in my life. I?m 22 and I want to make better choices and insure I can recognize when I?m putting myself in a bad situation next time."

According to a document obtained by Radar Online, Phyllis Moczygemba, the executive director of the Austin Drug & Alcohol Abuse Program, recommended that Abraham complete a 60-hour intensive outpatient program. In the state-mandated evaluation, Moczygemba reported that Abraham had difficulty making eye contact, and that she was standoffish and "sarcastic when answering the questions asked of her."

Abraham's sister, Ashley Danielson, thinks entering the program is a positive start. "She?s going to rehab to avoid jail, but I?m happy she?s finally taking responsibility for her own actions,? Danielson told TODAY.com.

The reality personality won't exactly be roughing it during her rehab stay. "At The Lukens Institute, your room is like living in a suite at the Ritz Carlton," Lohan said.

This has been quite the year for Abraham. Following her March DWI arrest, she starred in a porn movie with adult film star James Deen, and has been making appearances at strip clubs and erotica conventions across the country to promote the film. Her stay in rehab will not conflict with any of her scheduled appearances.

?Our accelerated program is designed for motivated, high-functioning individuals with demanding careers and busy schedules who want private, individualized care, as well as a high degree of personal freedom," The Lukens Institute said in a statement.

Abraham won't have much time to reflect on her rehab experience. Three days after she is scheduled to check out of the facility, she will be making an appearance at the EXXXOTICA Chicago convention, followed by an appearance at Vivid's Gentlemen's Club in Charlotte, N.C.

But for now, she's happy to be getting help.

Satellite shows tropical storm dalila hugging Mexico's southwestern coast

System 96E became a tropical depression and quickly grew into Tropical Storm Dalila on June 30. Dalila has been hugging the coast of southwestern Mexico practically since it formed, and continues to do so on satellite imagery taken on July 1.Because of its close proximity to the coast, there's a tropical storm warning in effect for the southwestern coast of Mexico from Punta San Telmo to La Fortuna, and a Tropical Storm Watch from north of La Fortuna. That means 1 to 3 inches of rainfall expected over coastal areas of the Mexican states of Micohcan, Colima and Jaliso, and tropical storm force winds, today, July 1.

On Sunday, June 30, Dalila's maximum sustained winds were near 40 mph (65 kph). By Monday, July 1 at 11 a.m. EDT, Dalila's maximum sustained winds increased to 60 mph (95 kph). The National Hurricane Center expects Dalila to reach hurricane force over the next couple of days.

The storm was moving to the northwest at 9 mph (15 kph) and is expected to turn west-northwest and head out to sea. It was centered near 17.8 north and 105.8 west, about 130 miles (205 km) south-southeast of Manzanillo, Mexico. Minimum central pressure dropped from 1003 millibars on June 30 to 998 millibars on July 1, indicating intensification was occurring over that time.

NOAA's GOES-15 satellite captured an infrared image of Tropical Depression Dalila on July 1 at 12:00 UTC (8 a.m. EDT) that showed how close to the southwestern coast of Mexico that Dalila is tracking. The image also showed strong thunderstorms were firing up around the center of circulation. The NOAA GOES image was created by the NASA GOES Project at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland.

Two different computer models are presenting two different scenarios with Dalila, according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC). According to the latest NHC bulletin on the Dalila, the GFS model is forecasting a stronger storm that will move farther north, while the ECMWF model is forecasting a weaker storm that will move slowly southwest. The NHC forecast splits the difference on the intensity and calls for a westward motion in the next two days.

Breakthrough in El Nino forecasting

July 1, 2013 ? In order to extend forecasting from six months to one year or even more, scientists have now proposed a novel approach based on advanced connectivity analysis applied to the climate system. The scheme builds on high-quality data of air temperatures and clearly outperforms existing methods. The study will be published this week in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

"Enhancing the preparedness of people in the affected regions by providing more early-warning time is key to avoiding some of the worst effects of El Ni?o," says Hans Joachim Schellnhuber, director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research and co-author of the study by Josef Ludescher et al (Justus-Liebig Universit?t Giessen). The new approach employs network analysis which is a cutting-edge methodology at the crossroads of physics and mathematics. Data from more than 200 measurement points in the Pacific, available from the 1950s on, were crucial for studying the interactions between distant sites that cooperate in bringing about the warming.

Extending the forecasting time but also enhancing the reliability

According to Schellnhuber a new algorithm was developed and tested which does not only extend the forecasting time but also enhances the reliability. In fact, the novel method correctly predicted the absence of an El Ni?o-event in the last year. This forecast was made in 2011 already, whereas conventional approaches kept on predicting a significant warming far into 2012.

El Ni?o is part of a more general oscillation of the Pacific ocean-atmosphere system called ENSO, which also embraces anomalous cold episodes dubbed La Ni?a which can inflict severe damages as well. The present study focuses on the warming events only. However, an El Ni?o-year is followed by a La Ni?a-year, as a rough rule.

Climate change: a factor for ENSO changes?

"It is still unclear to which extent global warming caused by humankind's emissions of greenhouse gases will influence the ENSO pattern," says Schellnhuber. "Yet the latter is often counted among the so-called tipping elements in the Earth system, meaning that at some level of climate change it might experience a relatively abrupt transformation." Certain data from the Earth's past suggest that higher mean global temperatures could increase the amplitude of the oscillation, so correct forecasting would become even more important.
